Intro to Acrylic Painting Week 1 / by Jose Loza

Welcome to Acrylic Painting!

During the course of the class this blog will be for sharing in class work and projects. I have included a copy of the supply list HERE

PAINT

Liquitex, Golden, Winsor Newton, and Dick Blick paints will work well. Make sure to get a heavy body acrylic paint as it will make a big difference when covering the canvas.

COLORS

ESSENTIAL COLORS: Cadmium Red Medium , Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Titanium White, and Black.

Recommended Colors

Burnt Umber, Medium Green, Cerulean Blue, Cadmium Orange Medium, and Violet.

Two places that have supplies are Michael's and Art Supply Warehouse. I have included links to both stores. Michael's is convenient store and offers coupons

Below are examples and details about the supplies needed.

Palette

Is a surface to pour your paints onto. Since we are working with acrylics, I recommend for you to purchase one that will allow you to save and reuse your paint. The palette with a sponge bottom will also help keep your paints from drying out longer.

This is an example of a sealable palette. Any sealable container will work as well.

CANVAS

There are many options to choose from, this will depend on your personal preference. The surface you will be painting on can vary from stretched canvas, canvas boards, wood, illustration board, foamcore, or cardboard. See examples below. We will be working on 8" x 10" size canvas. We will use use on average about two per each class session.
